ACE XXL Carpet Bags — First Impressions

After getting the ACE XXL bags in hand and throwing them, my first impression is better than I expected.

Both my XXL and ACE Clusters weigh right around 16 oz, but they feel noticeably different in the hand. The XXL still feels substantial, but it has shown itself to be much more hole-friendly and drippy than the Clusters.

The herringbone carpet side is the slow side, and it gives me the control I was looking for without feeling ridiculously slow. The fast side gives me another option when I need to slide or push a bag.

One thing I learned from actually throwing them is that a bag doesn't have to feel extremely loose in your hand to be hole-friendly. The XXL doesn't initially feel super floppy, but around the hole it can fold, drip, and work its way in much better than my Clusters.

The Clusters feel fuller and firmer and are much more likely to hang around the hole instead of falling in. That's been one of my biggest complaints with them.

So far, the XXL looks like a much better playing bag for me than the Clusters. I still need more throws before giving them a final review, especially to see how they behave once fully broken in.

Still to evaluate: actual playing speed, tendency to roll or kick, durability, and how much control I get from the carpet side after more games.
